SINGLE AIM: GOING IT ALONE
Singles have good reasons to pack up and hit the road,

'WHILE solo travel has always been a big market, an increasing number of companies are now paying more attention to the needs of the burgeoning and lucrative solo/single travel market.

Companies, including A Rendezvous for Singles, organise a twin-share booking with a room-mate matching service, teaming you up with a fellow traveller of the same sex as close to your age as possible.

Meeting new people your age, finding instant travel buddies and getting a cheaper holiday are just some of the advantages of signing up for a tour aimed at singles.

Justine Waddington started her singles tour company, A Rendezvous for Singles, two years after being single and frustrated with the lack of holiday options for herself.

Her company has found its niche in the competitive travel market, organising holidays to Vietnam, Nepal, South America and Kakadu - just for singles.

Traditionally, it has been quite expensive for people to travel on their own. “When you think about general promotions and travel advertising, it is all about twinshare prices,” she says. “It’s not until you see the cost of a single supplement that, as a single traveller, you realise that a twin-share price is not your price at all.

“A lot of my trips had been more along the lines of active-style travel, including the Inca Trail, trekking in Thailand, roughing it through Malawi and Tanzania and a ski instruction trip to New Zealand.

“I knew if that was what I liked doing, then we had to create trips like these as I knew there were others like me. “It’s all about offering an experience that means you can travel with like-minded people. And if you are single or find yourself planning a trip on your own, it’s a sharp contrast to take a trip with a bunch of other single travellers rather
